Iraq, air mail cover sent from Baghdad on 3/AUG/1939 to Milan, Italy via ALA LITTORIA. Franked for 3... fils, was carried by the regular Italian airline's flights Rome-Basra and return, as evidenced by the airmail label, written special in Arabic. The service using the existing air route Roma-Rhodos-Haifa extended on 18/4/1939 up to Baghdad and Basra. At the beginning of September 1939 with the outbreak of the war, Italian airlines were prevented from overtaking territories administered by Great Britain even though Italy remained neutral until 10 June 1940. VERY RARE ONLY FEW COVERS EXISTING.read more |
