Egypt, Mohamed Ali's Governmental Postal Service. Syria, letter written in Italian by the Sardinian Consul in Alep on 20/8/1840 during egyptian administration addressed to the Sardinian General Consul Agent in Alexandria. Sent by the Egyptian Governmental Post, with handwritten note "Clla posta del Governo" (By the Post of the Government). On the back, in arab pre-payment attested by Arabic handwr...itten "qrush 1 khales al -ijra" translating as "1 piastre, payment made". In the letter written in Italian, a real secret report, there is talk of the passage of Ibrahim Pacha, on his way to Damascus, to solicit the taxes arrears from the Syrian regional governors, to be used to pay troops. This happened when as early as August 11 the British commodore Charles Napier with a small squadron was in the bay of Beirut and asked for surrender Suleiman Pasha, commander of the city. Egypt Austrian office, incoming prepaid folded letter sent on 17/2/1852 to Alexandria showing Constantinople's Austrian Lloyd postmark. The letter contains the receipt of 250,000 French Francs paid to the "Banque de Constantinople" by the egyptian banker Sonnino on behalf of the egyptian government as a vassalage tribute to Turkey. The Bank was founded in 1847 and liquidated in 1852 and can be con...sidered the ancestor of the "Banque Impériale Ottomane" (Ottoman Imperial Bank). VERY RARE DOCUMENT.read more |

CAIRO EGYPT" that is provided to forward the letter to his central branch in Alexandria where a similar blue seal was applied with dater before consigning the letter to the local french post office on 18/3/1973 that was provided to send it in France. Paying 70ore, the cover resulting was insufficiently franked and was taxed for double deficiency by 18mils using 2mls and a pair of 8mls tax due stamps applied on the back.
